The 1970-1972 TIM&JG, 5th Edition, EXTERIOR pg 62, indicates the TRICO wiper blade insert has "a rubber insert with two raised ribs below the wording and brand information." But, the 1968-1969 TIM&JG, 4th Edition, I have has no reference to having raised ribs on the rubber insert. I have 16" TRICO wiper blade refills with either 2 & 3 raised ribs in the rubber inserts. So, for NCRS judging, specifically, should the 1969 TRICO rubber inserts have raised ribs & if so, how many raised ribs should 1969 TRICO wiper blade inserts have? Thanks, Pete

Re: 1969 TRICO Wiper Blade Refill Rubber Inserts
Pete,
A few years ago I did some research on TRICO RF-18 REFILLS for my 1970 Camaro SS project. I wanted the CORRECT refills for 1970. I did not get a lot of help from others. I only had used wiper blades from salvage yards, NOS wiper blades, and NOS RF-18 refills to go by. Back in 1968-1972 era the number of ribs on the TRICO refills varied for different years. Attached below is a photo of my research for RF-18 refills. I doubt that it helps much but maybe it will. This is the kind of details that makes the vintage car restoration research interesting.

Re: 1969 TRICO Wiper Blade Refill Rubber Inserts
Pete,
FYI: Chevrolet part numbers for TRICO 15 7/8" long wiper inserts (refills):
68 Corvette, #3813614 (10/67 catalog)
68-69 Corvette, #1387040 (10/68 & 9/69 catalogs)
68-71 Corvette, #3965940 (9/71 catalog)
Parts History Catalog: #1387040 replaced by #3965940 in Jan. 1970.
#3813614 disappeared ???, not in my 1965-1973 Chevrolet Parts History catalog.

Re: 1969 TRICO Wiper Blade Refill Rubber Inserts
The newer 5th Edition 1968-1969 TIM&JG reads:
Wiper Arms and Blades
Wiper blades are clip-type 16" long. The blade holders say TRICO MADE IN USA at both ends. (See Fig. E 9.0) The blade insert (spine) is flat-black plated. The wiper arm and blade have no bright metal in them. The wiper blade has two lines along the edge with patent numbers near the spine.
So... Could two ribs or three ribs be different vendors? I don't know.

Re: 1969 TRICO Wiper Blade Refill Rubber Inserts
All------
My 1969 still has the original wiper blades. I know this since I've owned the car since new and I never replaced the blades (blades last a long time when they are protected from the sun by the wiper door). I'll try to remember to check them when I get home but that won't be for quite some time. Of course, this will only tell us what was installed on my car, not necessarily every other 1969. Parts like these could have varied for a number of reasons over the course of a model year.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
