    Temperature Sender - Correct Resistance?

I know there are many replacements for the original GM 1513321 temp sending unit used thruout C1 & C2. And its hit and miss trying to find one that actually sends the correct signal to the temp gauge. I'm trying to find one now for my BB 66. Today I checked the 4 sending units I have and they all measure different resistance (at room temperature).

Does anyone know (or can measure) the resistance of a sender at 70-80F (room temperature) that actually reads correctly on the gauge between 180 & 210F? At least then I can walk around a swap meet with a multimeter and try to pick out one that might work properly. I don't understand why its so hard to make a repop with a proper thermistor. Bill

Re: Temperature Sender - Correct Resistance?

An OEM sender should indicate resistance readings very similar to these:

      220 degrees = 70 ohms
      200 degrees = 90 ohms
      160 degrees = 140 ohms
      120 degrees = 250 ohms
      100 degrees = 340 ohms
      68 degrees = 638 ohms

Thanks guys. I sent a note off to Jack Humphreys today as I can't find his article anywhere. It was published back in Sep 2002 in the Rocky Mountain Chapter newsletter, but their site archives don't go back that far. Hopefully he will get in touch with me. Bill
