    67 BATTERY gauge

I,am trying to understand my Battery gauge, at idle 850 rpm it reads a little pass zero as i increase rpm it goes toward +40 then back to zero when idling, charge system reads at battery 13.5 at idle when increase in rpm it goes 13.9 to 14.1 with no headlights on, my question is this normal operated for the Battery gauge needle to swing from zero to +40 , Danny

    Re: 67 BATTERY gauge

If car has been off for 24hrs or more, the Ammeter (battery) needle will jump to around +40 when it first starts, but then immediately starts dropping back towards 0. As long as engine is running, gauge reads slightly positive. Turn engine off, and needle will point straight up, aligned with the 0 line. Open a door, turn ignition to "on", or turn on lights, needle will move left (negative) of center. Start engine, needle always shows a positive charge. Yours seems to be reading properly. This assumes your battery is in good condition.
