does anyone know if the 3:08 was std with the auto or if it was considered an economy option?

Re: 71 corvette auto and rear gear
It was standard for LS-5 with THM-400. I don't recall, for sure, if it was standard with 350's but I believe it was. I just don't recall that any rear ratios numerically lower than 3.08:1 were ever available as a standard ratio on any Corvette and I don't recall that 3.36:1 was available as a standard ratio on any 1968 or later with THM transmissions. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Bob - I'm not certain of the accuracy of these papers... they came from the FREE Information Kits @ the GM Heritage Center.

Re: 71 corvette auto and rear gear
Bob
All the SM auto's I worked on and a lot of the BB's were 308 geared.
M20's got the 336 while some m20 bb still got the 308. I don't have any official documentation on these just what I have experienced working on these diff's for years. I thought there was a 273 ratio on the later C3 automatic's, maybe that as an 2.87 in the Dana 80 -82's? Tom's sold a 273 for a while and discontinued it due to lack of sales. I built one for my buddies 76 M20 but it's not a popular- Top
