Two wires hanging above clutch pedal

I just found two wires hanging down from above the clutch pedal. I also do not have working courtesy lights. Will check fuse.

Check the E-Brake switch. It is possible they came from there.
I'm assuming your car isn't a 67.
Is the bulb for the courtesy light there?

All three courtesy lights were there w/o any bulbs. I put three bulbs in and nothing. The two door switches had been painted over and were stuck. So I broke the nut loose and with the help of my 5 yr old grand daughter and got all three lights working. I may need to pull both switches out and clean them up. I had just seen a thread/ article on this and now can't remember where I saw it. Do you just unscrew the nut all the way and fish the wire and switch from behind? Not much room back there. The brake flashing bulb and the headlight bulb work, so I will try to track down where those two wires go.

John, the switches do unscrew. there may also be a flat washer behind that was used to shim the switch outward a tad. what is the other wire color I can see one is black?

Ed, The wire was routed thru the clutch rod hole. The wire appears to be a red stripe & green stripe wire that was split. I traced to just above the ballast resistor into a junction. The green wire was taped up, and I guess it was hot. See pic.


I do not see any washers behind the switch nut.

Maybe someone installed a kill switch at one time.

By chance does this car have reverse lights?
If so, do they currently work?

Yes they work.

The wires were noted as running through the clutch rod hole in the fire wall so there is no way they were installed by Chevrolet.

Yes, I know that. But the other end of the wire is into a coupler in the wiring harness or whatever you call it right above the ballast resistor.

That plug in your picture is for the reverse lights.
Follow where it goes and it will most likely lead to the switch on your tranny

Or should I say the reverse lights use that very same style connector from that location.
