    63 chrome interior moldings

My 63 SWC has chrome interior windshield, headliner, and rear window moldings. Looks great but was this ever correct?

I am not a 63 person but I believe that is correct for 63.

My coupe is chromed and they look good BUT that was the result of its short show-car career 1968-72(?) as a CANDY-APPLE RED (inside & out) show car. The gouges in all of the interior mouldings must have been made by 36 grit - "Just keep painting until the holes fill". In 1972 some of those pieces were ALREADY "unobtainium" - asked a plater if he would do all the interior mouldings in chrome for $100 - SOLD!

I have to believe chrome windshield interior pieces would be darned hard on the eyes in the sunlight.....worse than the "alleged" lack of rear window visibility due to the split for my money...

All interior garnish moldings were painted to match the interior color. For Riverside Red there are three paint codes, and I believe the only difference is gloss. For example the lower windshield garnish molding is flat, and I expect the other interior colors followed the same pattern.

Not all interior garnish moldings were painted (example: interior vertical windshield holdings were stainless right and left) . Would recommend you find a 63 that is known to be original in your interior color. Saddle Tan would be the most complicated as it used two different paints and finishes.

From a July 19th 63 coupe, silverblue/black. All moldings around the front and rear windows are painted black. From an April 19th 63 Conv, Black/Saddle. Windshield, top and side molding stainless, probably flash chromed originally. Bottom trim at dash is painted interior color.

All the garnish moldings on my June 63 saddle tan coupe interior are painted. No stainless or chrome.

The car i have is a red/red L76 SWC built July 9 and all moldings are chrome all around. The car is mostly original and therefore i do not want to paint moldings just in case they were factory chromed. How many points might this cost me at regional if, in fact, this chrome is not original?

Andy, 63 Coupes interior moldings were all painted gloss except lower is low gloss, convertibles windshield sides and upper where flash chrome, the lowers were low gloss. convert. with hard-tops had all rear window and side piller moldings painted gloss.

Andy, you'll need to find the point values on interior trim and then deduct 20 percent on the finish. so I found a interior judging sheet all the moldings are worth 15 points. so looks like 3 points

63 all interior trim pieces were painted interior color. From the factory some of the pieces were chrome or stainless steel under the paint. The paint did not adhere very well to it and would chip off, apparently they had intentions of putting all stainless steel inside the car and realized the reflection would not be good.

Sorry, as I was referring to a Convertible. My bad!
