I have three very small buffer burn through marks on the hood of my 62. It's older lacquer, probably at least 40 years old. I need an expert to be able to touch up and blend.... any suggestions or referrals?... in NJ Thanks....

Re: Help with paint blending problem
I'll be watching for any replies...I have the same problem with my Elkhart Green '72...I was able to buy a quart of the correct lacquer paint...I also bought an air brush outfit...I'm thinking of just thinning it out enough to air brush it in. Of course, I've had this stuff for over a year and have not mustered up enough courage to do it. Open for any suggestions.- Top

Re: Help with paint blending problem
Joe, check out Hibernia Auto Restorations (hiberniaauto.com). I personally don't have any experience with them, but they are located in north Jersey, and they advertise expertise in acrylic lacquer to the point of actually manufacturing it.- Top

Re: Help with paint blending problem
Hibernia is where I bought my paint...I have used it on some non obvious areas and I can tell you that the paint match was exact and my car still has the original paint. I would highly recommend this company.- Top

Re: Help with paint blending problem
Be prepared when the painter says he wants to shoot the entire panel to blend with the old paint. Spotting a small area with a solid color takes talent and is hit/miss. Metallic is nearly impossible, especially with original paint that has no clear.Mark Edmondson

Re: Help with paint blending problem
Thank you to everyone who has replied. I've visited Hibernia many years ago. I'm going to give them a call. At least that would be a start to taking care of the problem. And Dan I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to the air brush solution. I've had the paint for about three years but I'm really afraid to try anything too. I had a friend who had a 61 and he was an expert with an air brush and he used to do his road chips in the fall and he did them perfectly. Of course he was an artist and one of the big advertising agencies in NYC. So he was an expert with the airbrush.- Top

Re: Help with paint blending problem
Lacquer is easy to blend. If it is a metallic color I would clear the entire panel to avoid rubbing on the blend edges and to hide them . If it is Black good luck . It probably will crack as soon as you they try to blend it .Back in the Lacquer days if they had to spot non factory black the painters would strip the panel and start over.- Top
