C2 Spare Tire Carrier & Cover

JG for 64 Corvette states there are no part numbers or manufacturers logos on the spare tire housing. Several threads in this forum discuss C2 tubs and lids and, members have stated their known original tubs & lids have a very small manufacture's code & number embossed into the fiberglass. Some included pictures.

The spare tire carrier & cover that came on my '64 when purchased 4 years ago has an embossed code & number embossed on the lid and the carrier nearly identical to those shown in previous threads. The code is "MFG" and it appears in a small oval, the # on the tub is 19154, the # on the lid is 19146 (photo's attached). There were no other numbers, markings or date stamps anywhere on my tub or lid. Also, previous threads indicated "MFG" is the supplier's ID; the Molded Fiber Glass Corp, Ashtabula, Ohio.

All that said, and given the often stated comment that there are numerous "less than fully correct" entries in the 64 JG, has there been a determination made regarding tubs with these MFG markings, are they original, could my tub & lid be original? I ask this now because discussions in previous threads did not come to a consensus or agreement as to whether tubs & covers with these markings were originals. What is the current thinking - will these pass judging?

Do vendor supplied tubs and lids also have the MFG & # embossed on them? Trying to determine if my tub & lid is original or a repro.

It's original! My Mar64 has same stuff. Now can one say all 64's had these, would not place money on it however do not believe a judge would deduct anything if one saw it.

My '64 is original and has no markings. Different manufacturers?

Alan, Rod - thanks for your comments. Interesting - one member says his car has the markings another says it does not. That is consistent with comments in previous threads on this issue. Apparently GM contracted with at least two different suppliers for C2 spare tire tubs. Some have markings others do not. Still curious, do repro tubs available from vendors today have any markings?

Agree, interesting. I have never had any points or comments on judging sheets relative to markings. Think Rod has likely answer, two manufactures. A little history on my Mar64 car, purchased in Aug 67 and know other 2 owners, original owner is a NCRS Member, neither mentions any replacements body parts there.
