    66-67 Big Block AC Condensers

Well, I've enjoyed this thread. It looks like it's run it's course. Thanks for posting Gary. I hope you all don't mind, but I'd like to take a slight turn away from the original subject and venture into big block AC condensers. I've always wanted to know if there's the chance that my condenser is original to my '66 L36 AC car. I'm 99.9% certain that my radiator core support isn't my original. Thanks to recent discussions with NCRS friends and now this thread. I don't know how the condenser could've survived the front end accident from the early '70's that took out the core support, but strange things do happen.

There's a bow to this condenser due to it being installed tightly against the non-correct x-bar style non-AC big block support. Or maybe the bow was from the accident? I'm hoping that this is the correct condenser so I can salvage the side brackets and install them on a new condenser. I've seen these side brackets on a '66 small block Vette before. And I've seen a loose set of these side brackets (exact) from a '67 big block AC car that the owner swore were original to his car.

I'd really appreciate all '66-'67 Big Block AC car owners to please let me know what your condenser looks like. Especially the side mount brackets. Do yours look exactly like mine? Thanks a million in advance! Mike

                  Hello Everyone,

I realized that I was venturing away from the original subject '66-'67 Radiator Core Supports AC vs. Non AC started by Gary Jaynes. I didn't want to be disrespectful to Gary so I started this new thread titled "66-67 Big Block AC Condensers". The NCRS moderator was kind enough to move the new subject matter/posts to the new thread.

I really enjoyed your thread Gary. Thanks,
                  Mike

Mike, I have a original 72 a/c car and an interesting note that on the dryer it has a date code on the bottom you may have to remove some paint. I believe its a mon and year and did not have the day, It may be the same as 67???.

                        Hi Edward,

I've examined my dryer canister quite a bit through the years. A prior owner painted over that sticker. Not sure how to remove the paint from the sticker without destroying it. But checking for a date code was a great idea. I'll see if I can work it some more.

Mike my72 has a stamp from metal stamps on the very bottom of dryer, am not sure if 67 had this, but the stamps were small so paint may be covering??

                            Hi Edward,

I've never seen any stamps into the bottom the dryer canister on midyear AC cars. That would be great. Here's a file photo of a canister that someone posted to the TDB a while back. It's sticker is painted over like mine. Sometimes you'll see the white sticker unpainted. I've never seen one that was legible. Anybody seen one? Mike

Here's 2 shots of my '66's dryer end of the condenser. Is there anyone out there that owns a '66-'67 big block or small block that has identical side brackets as mine? See post #1 of this thread for more photos. I'd sure appreciate any info.

You'll see in one of these 2 shots that I removed one of the strap clamps from the dryer to show Nassau Blue over spray. This condenser was installed on my car at least during the early to mid - '70's. I figure it was most likely installed after the car's front end accident it had then. And it was installed over the non-AC X-bar big block radiator core support. Then it was El Cheapo Earl Sheib painted then blacked out afterwards.

I'm still holding out a glimmer of hope that this may be my original L-36 AC condenser? I know I've seen this style condenser before on '66 Vettes. As we always say.....never throw anything away until you're 1000% sure it's not original.....and even then
