73 engine pad VIN derivative anomaly

I have been looking for this photo for a number of years; I finally located it.

This is the VIN derivative stamped on the engine pad of a 73 base motor convertible that I used to own.

The correct VIN of the car is 1Z67J3S422397. That VIN is clear on the engine pad.

    But notice the last digit.

The engine pad (and the transmisssion as well) were originally stamped 13S422398. Then the last digit of the VIN was changed from an '8' to a '7'.

Just another interesting engine pad anomaly.

FYI: The car still exists, and is driving on the streets of Huntsville, AL.

Ed, a year or so ago I went to Al Greening class and he showed many stamp anomaly that happen all through the years, and stamping over numbers was common as were grind outs. being this car is a low horse power car who in there right mind would fake a stamp. if all the other numbers and broaching look normal chance are that's the way it was.

Here's an interesting flaw on my early '67 390 horse. The car VIN and engine are #350, the transmission stamp was never advanced and shows #349. They did use different stamps for each in 1967. The transmission build information does match the warranty plate information.

It is clear to see that two different gang holders were used in 1967.

The engine VIN stamp has the year 7, followid by the last 6 digits of the VIN.
The transmission stamp has the year 7, followed by S (for St. Louis) followed by the last 6 digits of the VIN
