    Coil question--not your usual

Previous owner dropped this coil. It is an original 263, made of unobtanium. I am assuming that I will have some problems if I use it as is. Is that correct? Is there anything I can do to repair it?
I know I can buy a repro, but would prefer to go with the original which is the original to the car.
    Thanks for your input.

Do you have the piece that was broken off? There are likely adhesives that can adequately rebond it. If it’s missing entirely that could make the repair more difficult as a donor may have a different material. I would think though there would be more potential internal damage than external. The terminal area looks intact and if makes a good seal around the boot it should be ok, in theory.

I'd repair it using a non-metal filled epoxy. Even without the broken-off piece you should be able to make the repair. I don't think you'll have any problem using the coil assuming that it's otherwise OK.

Mike, I agree with Joe. Back in the day when we both lived in Ft. Wayne I watched a guy at J&G Speed Shop in New Haven repair a similar break in a coil. He used a two-part epoxy and after a couple of hours tested it in a car and it worked. Good luck! Steve

He used a pencil down the opening to form the "mold".

            Mike,
I'd be very surprised if that coil did not preform as new. As others have mentioned do a cosmetic repair and the coil wire boot will cover it. You have an LS-6 to test it on so it's one less rare part to look for.

              Mike,
If you are looking for a epoxy, take a look at "marine-tex grey" it is actually black. I agree with the others I think you will be able to save the coil.
              Kind Regards

Try it as it is the boot will cover the broken area. The wire insulation will be in that area anyway. Then if it ok, fix the break.
