    Engine Identification

Trying to solve a riddle. The engine in my 1965 Corvette is a #3782870 with a casting date of 4/3/65. The build date for the car is 6/8/65. The intake, carb, exhaust manifolds and heads are correctly numbered. My checking says the engine is a 327/350hp. The engine pad has no numbers stamped on it. My thinking is that the engine pad numbers were machined off sometime in the past or that this is a replacement block. How can I tell one way or the other?

There are no broach marks at all. The pad is smooth.

If the block was "decked" in the field the pad will likely have circular tool marks, but any/all paint must be removed, and it may take strong light and magnification to see them.

Owen, I think you have a 65 motor, but to early for the car to be the original, even if it is decked. A June 8 car normally would have a motor dated May 15, or close. NCRS accepts 6 months, and you have that.
