    Muncie Shifter Rebuild/Restoration -1965

I am deciding what to do with my shifter before I reinstall it during my complete chassis restoration.

Has anyone restored one of these and can advise me on how to do it ?

    Here are questions:

    1. can the chrome ball, t-handle and shaft be rechromed successfully ? are repros good which will probably be cheaper than getting them rechromed ?
    2. are the tabs that connect to the transmission plated in zinc or cad ?
    3. is everything else natural ? Should I media blast then use inhibitor ?
    4. any wear items that should be checked and probably replaced (i.e. sprog clips) ?
    5. once it is restored should I set it up on the bench on the transmission and make sure all gears work then install it in the car and then not have to adjust linkage again ?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Mark,

There are several Corvette vendors that offer shifter control rebuild kits. You might take a look at what is available for what you want to do.
Volunteer Vets has a couple of good examples. Most items should be natural. Definitely, do a bench adjustment with the shifter mounted to the the transmission before installation.
