Hello All,
Just got back from Bloomington last night and overall had a real nice time . I met many MI chapter members and others from all over. Thursday was pretty much another rainout and we didn't get to open our swap spot until about 2 o'clock or sobut Friday and Sat were OK.
But here is the beware part. Late on Sat afternoon while we were just starting to pack up, 2 "gentlemen" came to our spots and started asking all kinds of questions about everything we had. One of them picked up a key off the rack and was then asking about headlights. My partner asked if he wanted to buy the key and he said he did. His hand then went into his pocket and came out empty. As they walked away, David said to me that he had just stolen a key- not a huge value but we all work hard for what we have no matter. I saw him across the main aisle and I decided that he wasn't going take from me so I ran across and confronted him - all 5'6" of me.
I was actually too nice and asked him if he "accidentally" put a key in his pocket and "forgot" to pay. He then asked me how much it was and I told him and questioned why it was so much. I said that that was irrelevant and that he owed me the cash. He paid.
I should have told him that he was lucky it was me and not someone else or he probably would be laying bleeding in the road and I also should have called security but I didn't. So be very aware of who you are dealing with at swap meets, especially late in the day.
