Firewall grommet routing for Speedo and Tach cable for 67 auto trans car

    Firewall grommet routing for Speedo and Tach cable for 67 auto trans car

    It looks like the correct firewall grommet listed for the speedometer and tach cables for a 67 with auto trans is a single hole one. Is this correct? If so, anyone have a picture of the routing. It is also an AC car but I do not think that matters for Spedo and tach routing.

    Tim,
    These pictures are of a 67 427, AC powerglide. I am changing it over to a 4 speed. ( It's got a CE block so please don't angry at me)
    Let me know if there are any other photos you would like. The tach cable is a single hole and the speedo cable goes through the firewall as pictured.

      Peter thank you for your reply. So if I understand correctly, the tach cable for the M35 auto trans comes through the firewall the same place as the 4 speed cars and the speedometer cable is routed through a separate single hole grommet as pictured ?

        My March 67 Coupe.auto with air, The Spedo exit is next to the electrical junctions and the Tach exit is next to windshield wiper box. My Spedo had an scabbed in (red) electrical hot wire that bypassed the junction box,

        I have made the 4 speed change over and now both will exit at the same location next to the windshield wiper box. The factory installed a plug in the existing auto / spedo hole so that the firewall was finished.

          Yes, single grommet for tach cable by wiper motor and speedo through firewall by bulk head connector.
          Greg's pictures look a little different than mine. I gave all my automatic parts to a friend with a 67 427 AC powerglide car and I can get pictures of his car if needed. Three speed cars are the same as powerglide also.

              Tim,
              I took another look at Greg's pictures and it appears his cable goes through the firewall in a slightly different spot than mine. My cable went through the hole where the clutch pushrod goes, his goes through the hole above it, you can see the plug in my picture.
              I should not have said three speed cars are the same, just similar, because they would have to use a different hole than my car.
              The speedo cable that came out of my car had what I would call a boot rather than a plug where it went through the firewall. I can get it back from my friend if you would like a picture.

                Just to clarify, my coupe maybe not the best example of an original assembly. Almost everything on that car has been replaced or salvaged from other cars. The firewall was left alone except for the scabbed electrical work. The attached additional photos are out of my collection of photos that I use for documenting original conditions, they show the firewall plug and spedo / tach exits. Also,the assembly manual is also a good source for this kind of documentation Hope this helps.
