    Picture of the capacitor behind the amp gauge on a 1963?

    Does anyone have a picture of the capacitor behind the amp gauge on a 1963?
    This is a very busy area of the dash with the headlight switch and capacitor almost on top of each other.
    It connects to the small screw that retains the gauge pod and the wire connects to one leg of the amp gauge.

    The assemble manual shows it but I havn't been able to get it installed in any manner that looks like something GM would do.
    Thanks

      Sure looks like it might be the same. Makes sense it would lay as shown.
      I now suspect the clamp on the capacitor may not be the correct one as makes the cap stick out so far enough as to make mounting the cap in this position is impossible. It is an original cap and bracket. However, the center of the clamp to the hole center may be too great a distance to mount it in the manner shown.
      Thanks for the picture and response. I now have some direction.

        Richard,

        Here's a pic of the capacitors on the back of all 1963-1967 C-2 Corvettes. They were the same on all C-2 Corvettes. Note the clamps have an extreme bend so as to keep the capacitor from showing below the instrument bezel.
        The clamps in the center that have been plated are only on NCRS Duntov Award Winners. Yeah, Right!

          Ny 63s capacitor is mounted identically to those shown above......makes doing certain things in that area a pain in the rear....

              Michael;
              Thanks for taking the time to get and post a picture. Makes it difficult to get the cap installed correctly, with the dash installed, as one cant get to the screw with the bend in the bracket. Also makes it impossible to install and then bend as the support is in the way. Makes it obvious, when the cars were built, the caps were installed and then bent over before the dash installation.
              I also noticed "J" nuts on the headlight rotation switch. All the vendors sell a clip that isn't a "J" clip but like the back halve only (i.e. not bend in the clip it's just flat with a screw hole in it. Certainly would be an easier install with "J" clips. Don't ask how I know!

                Richard,

                The J nuts work a lot easier BUT are not original. The flat nut plates is what was used by GM or Delco.

                  I really had not looked closely in this area before I took this picture. It is a tight mess, but since my '63 did not come equipped with a radio, now I am wondering if that capacitor should be there in the first place.........

                    no radio = no caps.
