    1970 ls5 front exhaust pipes

The original forward exhaust pipes on the '70 LS5 didn't have wrinkles in the pipes.
What would the point reduction be if I were to use the 1972 style that has wrinkled pipes?
I have the opportunity to buy a set of NOS front pipes with the wrinkles.
    Thanks, Rick

BTW... I have NOS mid pipes and mufflers.

I would think about buying the front pipes from Gardners in carbon steel, and selling the 72 style that you have.

Gardner won't sell just the front pipes.
      I haven't purchased the 72 pipes yet.

The NOS ones wouldn't be correct then any way. Have you researched weather or not after market could then be closer to correct?

It's curious Gardner won't sell components separately. It's all made to order.

            Did they say why?

Contrary to what others say, buy the NOS ones. They should be double wall, which has a profound effect on the sound of the exhaust. Single wall pipe just not sound the same.

The NOS will also have the dimple, clearance, for the oil filter, that neither Gardner or Corvette Central has.

A judge might deduct 20% configuration on the front pipes, But I probably would not...

                Hi Gary,
The Gardner front pipes have the dimple for the oil filter clearance.
I spoke with the owner about that and the picture on their website shows it as well.

Like you said though, the NOS pipes may be the best route.

Re: 1970 ls5 front exhaust pipes

The Corvette Parts Catalog dated December 1978 shows 334932 for RH, 334929 for LH front pipes 1970-74 454. I understand these are service replacement PNs.

Are 1970 production PNs different? Production without wrinkles, service with wrinkles?

                      Rick,

Do you have a source for NOS tailpipes and mufflers? Where did you find yours?

The 1972-74 had wrinkles which are what the NOS pipes have.
The part numbers you mention are correct for the NOS pipes.

I took Gary's advice and bought the NOS front pipes.

I bought the entire NOS system from Ralph Spears.
He bought it new in the mid 80's from the dealer for his 70 LT1 he had.
He recently sold the car and never used it.
I'm just not using the LT1 front pipes.
                          Will most likely sell those.
