1973 & 1974 Passenger Side Pressboard Jack Tray Date or Part Number

Attached is a photo of a date stamp from a known original 1974 Corvette pressboard jack tray. Note the 1/4 between the 3082 and 73 this is a departure from the norm, usually there is a blank space.

Has anyone observed similar irregularities in these stampings?

Also let's expand this to include earlier and later years.

Were all these date stamped, were some stamped with part numbers or both?

Was the depth changed from 6 3/8" to 5" at some point in production?

One theory on the 1/4 mark is a (adjustable) date stamp was used, in the date stamp is 1/4 2/4 3/4 4/4 as in filing with the IRS, this normally would have been adjusted (left blank). However did human error create the stamp shown.

The 1973 & 1974 Judging team would appreciate your response.

    Thanks Rich

I have a May 74' built 74'. I am not the original owner but it is a relatively unmolested car with 32000 miles. I assume my jack box is original as the rest of that area, including the stickers on the underside of the doors, appear original. My box has a black date stamp of 10327 74. The size of the numeral 1 is just slightly larger than the other numerals which all appear to be the same. There is a space between the 7 and the 74. Hope this helps.

Checked my Sept 8, '73 build 1974 Corvette(#01950)and it has a "skidded stamp". Numbers are just an elongated blur. I know mine's original as I had the car since May '89, bought with 27,000 miles. Don't know if they ever deducted for the illegible date stamp though when it was judged several times.

I think any pattern of number and space locations would be possible as it was a rotatable rubber stamp being used. Depends on how it was dialed.

              Thanks Guys

I was thinking as Sal mentioned that it was a rotating stamp (being a date stamp) so 1/4 would be the first quarter, 2/4 second quarter etc.

Bonus question, I have a pressboard tray it came with a 1970 Corvette I purchased, it has a part# stamp 362962, I assume this is a service part, or maybe a earlier part say 1968 or 69?

              Thanks Rich

Google shows it as a 68-early79 part.

                How deep is it?
                Any photos?

Not every tray has a date code. It may be the original to that car, especially if condition matches.
Looks like a nice one to me.
