Technical question on paperwork when one sells an old Corvette

Just curious when one sells an old Corvette. Should the original awards (Certificates) go with the car to
the new owner? Or should the original certificates stay with the owner of the car when the certificates
where earned and copies go to the new owner? I would think in some cases for "nostalgia" the originals
should stay with the seller. What is the common practice? Thanks in advance-Larry

Everyone will look at it a little differently. As a buyer, I like cars with original documentation (not copies) and anything that helps me understand where it has been during it's life. Same goes as a seller. When I sold my '56 I gave all of the original ribbons, etc. to the new owner because I feel that they belong with the car as part of the overall value and reason why the buyer selected my car....and paid my price. My car was TF, BG, TC on the days they were judged and I accomplished my goal. It was time to move on to the next one. I did take several pictures of the awards and had them printed and framed. Worked for me and the buyer was very happy.

When I sell a car, all documentation/awards/trophies go with it. They are a part of the car and its history.

Corvette, Mustang, Chevelle or Camaro....all of my sold cars went to the new owner with shop manuals, trophies awards, invoices for parts -- and usually some extra parts. Along with a thumb drive with a boatload of pictures of the car...and other info...

When the car is gone, I really don't want to look at the stuff anynore...

I take a different slant. I give all the original paperwork POP ETC. I have to the new owner but keep the original NCRS?BB awards as they have no relevance to the car after it is judged. I give copies for reference only. Also I give all the pictures I have & in some cases Corvette books that have pictures of the car in it. I have watched more than once people after their Corvette is judged take off a trunk load of original parts & replace with repos. Awards are only good the day they are judged.

These cars will outlive every single one of us. Keeping awards that the car earned is keeping a part of its story that should live on with the car forever. Guess what your wife will do with that box of original awards, trophies, top flight ribbons after your funeral? Toss them in the trash. Meanwhile, a part of the Corvettes history dies at the same time. How many of us would kill to have some paperwork from prior to when we bought our cars, but the owner wanted to keep it for sentimental reasons?

Just my differing opinion, but I am only the owner (scratch that), Caretaker of this corvette for a few short years. 5, 10, 25, 50 years from now, I bet the guy that is in possession of my Corvettes would love to have my Top Flight ribbons and certificates
. And he will have mine.

The original awards belong with the car, not with the steward who happened to own the car at the time they were earned.

I echo the above opinions - awards should stay with the car. Not a lot of sense to me in saving a box full of awards and certificates for a car you used to own. Set them all out in the driveway in front of the car the day you sell it, and have someone take a picture with you in it. That's enough.

I'm with the majority. I feel all paperwork, trophies, plaques, etc. should remain with car. Seller would probably want to keep any pictures, but can make copies available to buyer if he desires.

I would lean toward going with the car, but it is really between the buyer and seller. A couple of years ago I sold a really sterile, well optioned, original 64 with all docs since new. I priced it with what I thought was a 20% adder for documentation (several inches thick). When the buyer came to pick it up, he told me to throw it all away - he was going to gut it and turn it into a restomod.

I would have told him to go find a different Sting Ray to buy. Yours should have gone to someone that appreciated originality. IMHO
