I suspect that my original 091 coil is not performing as it should. What would be a good replacement coil that I can purchase over the counter to get me by until I can find an original replacement? Joe?

Re: 091 coil
Standard Motor Products manufactures an inexpensive generic 12V coil for GM cars. It's not visually correct, but is functionally correct. As with most ignition parts it's available in various brands including NAPA. If the 091 is original, then the car would have a 0.3 ohm ballast.

Re: 091 coil
Back in 2006 I did not have an '091 coil for my 63 as a friend ended up with it cheap. At that time the 4th edition was being used which recognized the 087 coil for my '63 fuel car. I used it with a D1110 ballast resistor. Then I found a NOS '091 and used a NOS correct D1111.
I tell fellows that since the 091 is super rare and priced super high use the '087 as it's still affordable today. Or use a good know Delco Remy coil.
At a recent chapter show I judged midyears. Made a lot of deducts on auto store coils and distributor caps. John D- Top
