Interesting. My 71 has no title status found, but my 72 does. I wonder if it only goes back X number of years?

I did my 66 and actually purchased the report. It only has a listing for my titling of the car in Virginia and the previous owner in New Jersey, so not much history value to me.

Same for me for my 1967 car. Shows when I purchased it back in 1994 and also shows previous owner(s) are from Pennsylvania........but no specific names given.

When I bought the car I applied for and received (with some difficulty) all the Pennsylvania records on the car with names and mileage etc, but with $$$$$$ redacted for all purchases. They told me at that time that additional records did exist that were now stored in an underground vault, and that even the Governor would have difficulty to access. In other words, we gave you all you are going to get.

I did find out later that the owner before the Pennsylvania owner was Bob Gold from Bloomington Gold Auctions. It was his personal car for awhile. But I never had a chance to talk to Bob before he died. I left it there and never pursued it any more.

NCRS told me car was initially sold at Curtis Chevrolet in Washington DC...........which is what the tank sticker also indicated.

NMVTIS became mandatory on Jan 1, 2010. Some states were participating earlier.

I suspect that with your 69 and my 71, they were titled to us long enough ago that the "new" system doesn't show them.

REMEMBER, NMVTIS went online (became mandatory) for all 50 states on Jan 1, 2010.

The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) was created under the Anti Car Theft Act of 1992. In 1996, the Anti Car Theft Act was reauthorized and amended, transferring the responsibility for NMVTIS from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). NMVTIS is designed to prevent various types of automobile theft and fraud by providing an electronic means for verifying and exchanging title, brand, theft, and other data among state motor vehicle titling agencies, law enforcement officials, consumers, and other authorized users of the System.

If no VIN related transaction has occurred to your car since your state enacted NMVTIS, then it will not be in the syste,

I purchased my 57 in February of this year and it's showing No Title History record is available for the VIN.

It also said no history for my 69 which I purchased in March of 2010 so it appears it doesn't work for anything older than the 1970's?

Your 57 may not have made it into the system yet. I think I heard that a lot of states update quarterly.

The March of 2010 purchase should be there.

Check another vehicle that you own.

It has a record of my 64, but not since I purchased it last November.

It also has records of the two 56 Vettes that I used to own.

It found my sons 1979 GMC pickup which he purchased 3 years ago, his 1987 Pontiac Fiero which he purchased a year ago and a 2001 Mercedes 230 SLK we sold a few months ago, but not my 68 Camaro. However, I've owned the Camaro since 1998, so I didn't think it would be in there. I would think the 69 Corvette and the 57 Chevy would be in there though.

The interesting thing is that I've always wanted to find the cars with the VIN right before or after my 71 and 72.
I found one next to each car, so for the heck of it I might see what it shows me.

A '55 I sold 45 years ago shows up, so I guess that means it's changed hands recently.

A Corvette I sold last year shows up.

However none of our other vehicles which have been in our care for literally decades have any information on file. So that tends to confirm that only recent transactions are in the database right now.

A Corvette I sold last year shows up.

My 1967 car was in the database, and it was purchased by me in 1994. My report also included the cars prior sale(s) from the 1980's. States involved are Louisiana and Pennsylvania.

Another interesting point is that my car was registered in Pennsylvania in 1990 as a "Classic Car." This was done by previous owner to get a better deal on license and registration costs and to get special privileges. I also registered car in Louisiana as a "classic/antique" for similar reasons. The report showed this as a "red flag" to future buyers same as it would for a major accident or a salvage title. Car is a documented 25,000 mile Bloomington Gold car with known history.
