C1 (59) Horn Wiring Question (Ground Wire)

I'm attempting to install my 351/352 horns in my 59.

Question 1...are there 2 ground wires (one for each horn) to be installed?
Or is there one independent ground wire installed on the driver side and another wire in the under hood / engine wiring harness that will connect to the passenger horn?

My assembly manual is only showing the detail of the driver's side with the ground wire attached to that horn (see picture).

Question 2...the one new ground wire I do have indicates that I'll need to solder to that one to the existing horn contact. Does anyone have a picture of the horn contact and the solder location they can share? I need to know if the horn contact is a specific color and the exact placement.

    Thanks for your help.

Do you have a Corvette Service Guide? Also known as a ST-12. There is a wiring diagram in there. Also most Corvette vendors have a laminated color coded wiring diagram for sale. There re much easier to read!. According to your picture the ground wire attaches to the horns mounting bolt so I'm not sure where you think you need to solder anything. The hot wire pushes on your horn with a clip.

      Jill,

I recently installed a set of the original horns in my 59 and had also previously installed a new wiring harness as well. The new reproduction harness has a separate ground wire and terminal for each horn as is configured in the ST-12 picture. If you are working with the original harness and don't see that wire, I would suggest unwrapping some of the black wrap backwards towrd the drivers side and my guess is you will find a cut off ground wire. Good luck, Dan

        Hi Jill,

As pointed out previously, there should be (and needs to be) a ground wire connected to each horn bracket. No ground, no horn operation....

Re: C1 (59) Horn Wiring Question (Ground Wire)

Thanks everyone for your input. As Dan pointed out, I went back and examined my under hood wiring harness and found both connections after reviewing my Corvette Servicing Guide and assembly manual. Needless to say, I've got them both installed with the ground wire intact along with the plug clips for the positive.

          Appreciate all of your input!
