    Tank Sticker 1974 L82

    Hi all.
pulled the gas tank out of my 1974 L82 today - it was leaking.
The build sheet was glued on the top passenger side.
It was covered with a lot of grime, but after having cleaned of this very carefully something is still readable.

I have attached some pictures - can someone help decode?
I'm especially interested to know if its possible to see what kind of tires the car came with..

The car is a matching # car, and it seems fairly original.
This is what I know of the car.
1974 L82 with TH400, A/C, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Windows, Tilt and telescope steering column, rear window defroster, Seat belts, cut pile carpet and radio. Corvette Orange Metallic and black de luxe interior with leather seats.

    Best regards
    Petter

From the attached build sheet your car was delivered to
    Sport Chevrolet
    3101 Automobile Blvd.
    Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.

They are still in business. phone 240 865-9418

It is possible the Corvette was financed through Citizens bank in Riverdale, Maryland during the time your car was originally purchased
    Good luck

Something else to consider is to have someone scan it and use an editing program to change contrast levels, reverse the black and white or change colors. When I did that to mine I was able to see characters originally missed.

Peter...a great find and I know you're quite excited about it!

Gary's suggestion is spot on regarding scanning the original to both preserve the data and view the characters.

We have a team that is in process of revising the 73/74 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide and I have been searching for a photo of a buildsheet on the tank...you're photo would be greatly appreciated. Send as an attachment to my email if you don't mind sharing.

The NCRS sells the Corvette Buildsheet Book that details how to interpret those numerous codes. As its author, I can share lots of information about your buildsheet. I attached the table of contents below. For example, I can see that your car appears to be loaded with a rear window defroster as well as the J50 power brakes. I would also invite you to join our revision team. We have only a few 1974 contributors.

          Again...great find!

              Hi Tom.

I have now scanned the build sheet and have uploaded some files to a web-site I have.

I was not aware of the level of interest in these build sheets - if I had known the situation before I removed the build sheet from the tank, I would have used much more time and have been much more careful.

When removing the dirt on top of the sheet I could barely discern some letters in the top right part, but they were brushed of together with the dirt (using a fine paint brush). In retrospect I would probably had more luck using compressed air...

That being said, it is what it is.

Take a look at the scans and see if you can use them.

Here is a picture of the tank with the sticker:

PS. The tank leaked through pin holes in the front bottom left corner - looked like it was rubbed thin...

I found that a sable "make-up" brush works great (gently brush the dirt away), just don't let your wife catch you.

So you have an early (09-04) 1974 L82 M40 orange car?
