1968 L71 Carburetor base gaskets - Overhang or no?

Final installation of my 1968 L71 3x2 carburetors for flight judging and questioning the size/shape of the carburetor to intake manifold gasket. Holley gasket kit leaves anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 inch of black gasket showing around parts of the carb base when installed. My question is: For flight judging, should these be trimmed back to be flush with the outside edge of the carb base, or should the gasket stick out past the base? On page 127 of the 5th edition TIMJG under "Insulators (Gaskets)" it only mentions that Holley equipped engines used a 1/16 thick black gasket, but it does not define the size or shape.

Can anyone advise if i should leave as sent from Holley, or trim to fit the shape of the base of the carb?

Also, I searched the forum, but did not find a thread that addressed this. You can point me to one, that would also be great.

    Thank you

Brad, when I rebuilt my carbs I trimmed the gaskets for no overhang. I don't recall but I must have read something that made me do it.

Thank you Chris, I guess that is what I will do also then. Was hoping for a few more confirmation responses since the JG does not define the shape of the base gasket.

One other question since you posted the pic the way you did. Are you sending the vacuum hose to your smog pump from a T fitting cut into the vacuum hose that goes from the front center vacuum port on the base of the center carb to the choke pulloff? The AIM for 1968 does not clearly show where the hose for AIR pump needs to be connected.

      Thanks!

Brad, I've removed my AIR stuff, but here are some photos of a 69 from the 2016 National.

          Brad,

I am not sure about the overhang, but what I do know is that original gaskets had no rubber incorporated in the cork. Later over the counter and after market gaskets do the robber in the cork.
