    Al Knoch Carpet For 56/57

I have been making progress on my 56 Corvette; and noticed that the heel pad and stitching was incorrect on the carpet that I purchased from Al Knoch many years ago at Bloomington. After I sent pictures of the carpet to Al Knoch; I was told that the carpeting that they sold me was for a 53 to 55 Corvette. The carpet box was marked on the end cap that it was for a 56-57 Corvette, small loop, beige and 10 pieces. I also sent them my original invoice that stated that the carpet was correct for a 56 to 57 Corvette, small loop, beige etc. Al Knoch's response back to me was to sell my existing incorrect carpet on eBay and pay full price for another 56 to 57 Corvette Dayton weave carpet set; because I bought it too long ago. I even sent pictures of how the correct stitching should be applied to the 56/57 carpet from Dave Smith's Bow Tie cars. This should help them with the correct stitching in the future. Please advise if I am wrong; however, I believe that I have been taken advantage of?

      Steve:
Yes, it is the 56 with the mysterious bolts that you were throwing on the floor before I could label them. What is unsettling is that Al Knoch sold me the incorrect carpet. It was for a 53 to 55 even though the box and invoice said it was correct for a 56/7. Yes, I should have opened the box box when I purchased it; but in my haste of saving some money on the show special pricing, I made the purchase and put it away for my future restoration. I thought that I had a simple solution of changing the heel pad and adding some stitching to my Al Knoch purchase to make my 56 correct in judging. As Al Knoch told me to sell the incorrect carpet on eBay and purchase another set from them-well how would you feel? You and I worked for the same company; and I would give the customer the benefit of doubt, even though there may be other issues. Also, it took several calls and emails to get Al Knoch to respond initially.

Just an update: I did receive a call back from Isaac (sp) at Al Knoch and he gave me credit for my original carpet. Also, he will update the double stitching from side to side, like that on Dave Smith's Bow Tie 57. My restoration can continue! Thanks for the support!

good to hear that Al credited you. I've always found he and his staff to be folks with scruples. mike
