    T-10 second gear issue

I just installed torque lock sliders in my '59 T-10. They work great, no problem popping out of second gear. The problem is when I am coasting up to a stop sign or light. My usual procedure is to depress the clutch and bring the shifter out of 4th and, around the horn so to speak, into 2nd and when I come to a stop, up to 1st. Now, when I try to get into 2nd the gears grind like there is no synchronization. The faster I am coasting the more pronounced the problem. When I am stopped or almost stopped, no problem. There is absolutely no problem going from 1st to 2nd while accelerating.

When installing the new sliders new synchro rings were used. Second gear is almost brand new, shows no wear. Clutch is fully disengaging. As per ST-12, put the clutch pedal 1/2 inch from floor and, with engine at idle, shifted from neutral to reverse several times with no problems.

    Thoughts? Sully

Sounds like it is not coming all the way out of fourth. Are the linkage rods adjusted correctly?

I think they are but I will double check. It will be easy to adjust 3-4 one or two turns and give it a try. Thanks

Terry - That was it. So simple but I was thinking to hard. Thanks once again.

Very common problem. There some brass synch ring made a some years ago the were junk.I would put in a new second gear . No mater what it looks like . Buy the brass ring Larry at D&L sells . Make 3 marks on the gear spaced around the gear were the brass ring runs . Push the ring down on the gear and turn it . Look at the marks . That will tell you if the ring is seating all the way around .It should have a lot of drag on the gear. That is what makes it work.Use the torque lock slider he sells . It is machine to drive the gear in deeper when on the gas or off. Put in a new shifting fork . The I like to grind the detent about .030 deeper and .030on the side so it causes it to engage the slider deeper in the gear . Make sure on your side cover that when it is in every gear that it will go just a little past the detent. The little sleeve that the spring goes in sometimes holds it from seating on the detent and the will have to ground down.If you look the sleeve is is the stop for the shift arms. Put in a new spring and ball.
