    Spark Plug Wires

I purchased a set of wires from LL for my 64 with 300/327 and the Ohm measurements are:

    1) 16000
    2) 16000
    3) 16000
    4) 16000
    5) 12000
    6) 10000
    7) 9000
    8) 8000
    Coil 2400

    Look okay?

    John:

An old post from Bill Clupper indicates 3000 to 5000 ohms per foot of wire was the old GM spec.

Your posted numbers look okay, but you can divide the ohms by the length of wire in feet to get the ohms/foot number.....and compare to the above.

All wires fall in the 3700-4266 ohms/ft range.

Carbon impregnated core wires are junk if you plan on actually driving the car. The impregnated wires are so very fragile and unreliable at the worst times. Packard 440 wire is a better choice.

Agree with Gene, just learned the hard way they break down easily, put solid core wires on, like a new car.

The wires look okay. Solid core wires are better, but will likely add an annoying buzz to AM radio reception, even with all the shielding, ground straps, and capacitors in place.

Well what it boils down to is, do you want to walk or put up with a little buzz on AM reception? Does anyone really care about a little buzz on AM reception since FM is what most stations broadcast on anyway? And most radios now days are AM/FM!!!!

The only shielding I have on is the two rear verticle ones, to act as a heat shield. I have R45 AC plugs and the radio is fine on AM.

Use spiral wound wires, not solid wire core. Taylor and Pertronix are two brands. Good performance and less issues with radio interference. Some electronic trigger points replacements will not work with solid core for one thing.

I just replaced my LL dated wires. Have no radio and very little interest in AM.
