    Typical GM Grill ?

My grill was damaged last year when someone backed into me. Just had the new Grill installed. The new grill is a GM produced part but does not look as perfect as my former grill (of unknown origin - but was at least 20 years old). You can see in the attached photo that some of the fins are not fully formed. The supplier has two more in stock - and they show the same characteristic.

Would this grill be considered within the range of "normal" production?

    Thanks

GM sold this grille in SERVICE for a long time after its PRODUCTION use ended. As time went on, the tooling got progressively worn. So, examples of the grille manufactured for later SERVICE had consequent flaws. When things got to a certain point, GM "put up the discontinued sign". Your replacement was probably made towards the end of manufacture of this piece.

I could not image the cost of getting this grill rechrome today. The last I priced this grill through my GM dealer it was around $850.00

That might be the type of quality provided today but is definitely not representive of a 67 quality grill.

I would return it and look for something better.

Joe and Gene - I think you both hit the nail on the head. Just looking online - there indeed appear to be better alternatives available to the one I was sent. The shop doing the work said essentially exactly what you said Joe.

Guess I will just need to be patient and wait a little longer.

It turns out I was wrong about the grille being discontinued. It's still available to this day from GM for $1031, GM list. That means it's still available 53 years after it was released! Usually, GM will discontinue a part before the quality gets real bad but I bet the quality of these things being sold now is pretty bad (as you apparently found out). It's extremely rare that GM will refurbish the tooling for a part for an old application like this. It might well be that whatever inventory of this grille that exists within GMSPO is from the last manufacturing run.
