When i put the mount behind water pump it hits the rectangular casting hump on the head?? any help appreciated thanks RDR

Here's a pic of a 55 pad that shows the motor mount behind the water pump. Unless your trying to put the motor mount on backwards it is impossible to have interference with the head.

Corvettes used Flint heads that had the front casting machined down to approx. .060 for this exact reason. Tonawanda heads, which you have, were used in other applications that didn't require the machining process. Here's a pic. of my 1960. You can easily see that a Tonawanda head wouldn't work.

I switched heads from one side to the other and all fit well. thanks for the help. RDR

if the head is a tonowanda casting, the judges usually detect the "sand cast" appearance of the rectangle(vs the broached surface of the rectangle on a flint head).you could also pull the valve cover and if the casting date year is two numerics, then its a tonawanda head. mike- Top
