1963 Oil Gauge Line

I have some picture of what I believe is the original 1963 oil gauge line to share.
The LIC catalog lists the line as a steel one that is copper coated.
I am posting pictures of my line. I checked it with a magnet and it doesn't stick.
The replacement line is magnetic.
Original is on the top in the picture below:


One better look close before installing the line as delivered. You can see the large bur in the end of the LIC replacement line.

Fittings were an exact copy as far as I could tell.
So was the firewall bushing. Exception was it didn't have the split.

I plan on splitting it to make the wiring installation easier.
The split sure looks stock but I am not 100 percent on this.

Richard,

Your oil line is not correct for your 63 and has been replaced.

Use the LI one as it is correct for all mid year C-2's.

Agree with Joe, order the line that is prebent. It will save you lots of time. I think it's 38-30A.

Thank everyone for your input.
I was looking through the assembly manual and didn't see the rubber line the first time.
I assumed the steel line went to the rubber line. Missed that BIG difference the first go around.
After doing some more research I began to think this was not correct and you guys confirmed it.
Is the 5" rubber line something from a later year corvette or? Looks factory in function and application.

I am going back to the steel line. I suspect it will last as long as needed.
Is the bushing a replacement also? Lack of any marking, what so ever, has me thinking it is not original to the car.
I never replaced it and 40 years ago you could still by parts from GM.
Guess it matches the reproduction and that will have to do.

The original is copper plated STEEL. Unfortunately, over the years some "reproductions" have been copper, which is a poor material to use in any kind of vibration environment because copper rapidly work hardens, become brittle, and can easily fail.

It's a good idea for everyone to check theirs with a magnet. If the magnet doesn't stick, the line should be replaced with a proper copper plated mild steel part.
