66 Tire Advise/Opinions/Suggestions

1966 Convertible, 427/425 H.P., Black w/Black Interior/Black Hardtop, Knock Off Wheels

I am trying to decide what bias ply tire option would look best on this vehicle.

1. Whitewalls
2. Blackwalls
3. Gold Stripe

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I recall when my red on red special order SWC was delivered the first thing I thought was: why did I order whitewalls? How many Ferraris. Maseratis, Aston Martins, and Porsches of the era had them. (Would James Bond be caught with whitewalls on his DB-4?) I think they could be ordered on a XK-E, but maybe for USA models, only. Whitewall tires was a USA thing, but very rare on European cars, especially sports cars.

But the first time I took the car out to Kent for a day of hot lapping about three months after delivery the OE General Jetaires' tread started chunking, so I replaced them with a set of Michelin X 6.70-15 radials that, of course, were only available as blackwalls.

The car looked SOOOO much better... like a high performance sports car should.

So I expect you can guess my opinion.

How about a fourth choice? Redlines on a black/black car with knock offs would look bad azz!!!

I love the look of the red-lines best of all. They just aren't "correct" for '66.

Redline are also very nice on a darker car, here on my Daytona Blue '64 roadster.......

My 65 with gold lines always looks a good combination my old white 66 redline looked great and even black walls still looks aggressive- white walls never look clean even with Whites cleaner - leave them to the C1 guys

I had biased ply gold lines on my yellow 65 coupe with K O's. Car handled well to 70 mph.
