    Are the original 63 and 65 jacks the same?

    The same as what? 1965 was a year of transition with the jack making the change from 1st gen to 2nd gen and towards the end of production to the 3rd gen design. So, much here depends on the VIN of your car. The last time I looked, the Judging Guide did a pretty good job of defining the differences. The problem is the 2nd gen was in use for such a SHORT time, that it's possible any given mid to late production car might have simply skipped leaving the factory with a 2nd gen jack as inventory wasn't specifically FIFO/LIFO controlled...

      My 1 owner April 65 came with a type 1 jack. Disregard what the 65 JG states, it's wrong.

        My Feb 15 built 65 has a jack that is the same as the Type 1 jack from my Dec, 62 made 63 car. If this is correct, great.

          I think that's a bit 'harsh', Jim. I mean the JG is careful to use the term "APPROXIMATELY" when it refers to the relative timing of Type 1, 2, and 3 jacks. Then, that timing is based on when each was accepted for use by St. Louis. Last, all three had the same PN so they would have been binned together meaning it's a matter of random luck as to what was pulled and put in a given car going down the line.

          There's nothing printed that says it's completely impossible for an April 65 build car to have left St. Louis with a Type 1 jack in it. My take is most judges should understand there was no real FIFO/LIFO control and lots happened by random chance... Plus, my L78 was also an April build and it too had a Type 1 jack. That was never questioned at NCRS, Bloomington, or ChevyVette Fest...

          Now, a December 64 build car with a Type 2 or Type 3 jack, that's probably a problem. Or, a late June build car with a Type 1 jack, that'd raise another question mark. So, I stick by what I said that the JG book has reasonably good info. But, one has to understand the disclaimer 'approximately' + the lack of inventory date controls...

            There were several articles done in "The Restorer" in past issues. Looking up the first article that tagged the jacks as Type I, Type II and Type III might be of interest. There was a survey done for that article and asked the members to only reply if they KNEW the jack was original to the vehicle they owned. It should give insight to the SN in 1965 as well as other C-2's. The author of that survey received some very interesting replies for original owners from 63 to 67.
