Re: 1963-64 Horn and wiring core support clips
Richard,
I believe the fourth clip goes on the passenger vertical side of the core support to hold the horn wire as it runs down plus the three across the bottom.
I also think the other larger clip goes on the drivers side core support to hold the headlight harness as it runs down.- Top

Re: 1963-64 Horn and wiring core support clips
Thanks Alan, picture is worth a thousand words.
The cheat sheet that was shipped with the clips had the big clip on the drivers side and an additional small clip on the RH side. I though it made sense as it matches the wire count (i.e. more wires in the bundle on the drivers side). I need to look this up in the assembly manual to see if it adds to my confusion, one or two other clips on the edges of the core support.
I noticed you have bolts and lock washers retaining the fan shroud. My car is an early 63. What you have is exactly what the vendors sell as replacements and what is indicated in the assembly manual. I found mine with what appears to be the correct bolts but with a large flat washer also installed. Wondering if it is judged and if so should I put it back as found or as indicated in the assembly drawing?- Top

Re: 1963-64 Horn and wiring core support clips
Richard,
Important point - that picture is from a Mar64 car. For the subject area the AIM for 63/64 are the same. You will notice some difference in the horn mounting & part numbers and a slight difference for the wiring to left horn, right is about the same. 63 used black wire while very late 63 and all 64 used green wire.
Shroud (in that picture) was retained with repo bolts/washer and not how car came. (Owned since 1967 & know past owner) Was looking to pick up some points however have now changed back to how car came as opposed to JG requirement, minor deduct.
My car came with pointed bolts and integral flat washer, black!
Suspect the bolts you found may have the pointed end??? Have been looking at those now for some 10 years and have found a mix on original cars.
Now the lock washer in 63 was 120214 while 64 used 187119 both are 5/16" lock washers
sorry for any confusion- Top

Re: 1963-64 Horn and wiring core support clips
Alan the shroud bolts in my 63 were not pointed and had only a lock washer,no flat. bolts were WB1C. and it was likely other head markings that were time specific were installed. plating was Zinc.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1963-64 Horn and wiring core support clips
Ed, you are correct!
That's exactly what is called for in the JG and shown in the AIM as the part number to use, ie flat zinc.
However mine and others I have looked at have been pointed with flat washer and black. These are considered WRONG at present time.
Just wanted to warn Richard.- Top
