Per the black book a 78 car with L82 and manual trans could not get YF5. SO does that mean it would not have the smog pump? Have been told that all pace cars came with smog pump. Thanks

Re: 78 pace car smog pump
YF5 is the option code for 'California Emissions Test'. I think that means that the manual trans was not available in California (or any state that had that standard at the time) with L82. I believe all 78 L82's, and 'High Altitude' base engines, had a smog pump. Also, I believe that the L82 was not available in California (but I could be wrong) in 78.

Re: 78 pace car smog pump
All 1978 L-82, manual or automatic trans, were equipped with AIR ("smog pump"). No 1978 L-82, manual or automatic, was available for California delivery. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Chris
In 1978 we lived in Orange County, CA. I wanted to purchase a new Silver Anniversary 1978 Corvette with an L-82 engine and auto trans. The L-82 engine was not available in California because GM had not gone through the process to smog certify that engine in California.
Had a good friend that worked for a Chev dealer in the Chicago area, so I contacted him and he had the car. 1978 two - tone Silver, red leather, L-82 engine, and auto trans, plus all other options and a CB radio. The engine was equipped with NA2 standard emissions ( smog pump - A.I.R )
We bought the Corvette, had it shipped to Orange County and was able to register it at DMV without any issues, just pay the sales tax and registration fees.
