Flight judging - car prep for judging field 1995 C4

Hi, its been a while since my last flight entry. I thought this information was in the manual or online but could not find it. What prep needs to be done once the car is on the field....drop spare tire, open hood with battery disconnected (with quick dis-connect for 3 points), is it ok to have a preset saver plugged into the cigarette lighter...what about air filter...should it be open and out....console contents....left in leather pouch or open and out ( I am hesitant to leave it out due to wind or sticky fingers) , one set of keys, one fob , or two keys two fobs, key ring with knock out and tags.... input would be appreciated. I do have 96 felt for noise reduction on hood contact points, I know this wasn't as left factory in 95 but have no intentions of removing them, what hit should I expect. I have a few other questions that I will probably put in separate posts but feel free to chime in here: My Bowling Green Plant round decal is starting to roll up on the top, I want to re glue this down but want a damage free adhesive for door paint and decal..any recommendations? What are the average points deduction for scratches on the front under bumper 3 piece air deflectors, mine or minimal, I have NOS, is it worth changing? And last, My car came with Delco Bose Cassette , not Cassette/CD which I have in their now, is it worth swapping for judging. Lastly, I have no outer weights on the rims, I do not want them scratched, they have static balance stick on weight on inner wheel- what would be the deduction. I believe those are the only known points issues....thanks.

    Chris,

Most important “prep” is ensure Operations items work - potential to lose lots of points with a single failure.

Team lead will examine “Service Parts Identification Label”. This label is a paper tag glued to some interior part. Glove box doors, center arm rests and rear compartment can be candidates depending on the year. However, this label gets checked by the Team Leader just like the metal Trim tags of earlier years. These labels sometimes get lost - console door replaced, etc but car cannot be judged without this label.

If your Parts Label is missing, contact National Team Leader Tom Barr and he will walk you thru getting replacement document from National Corvette Museum (document is sent directly from NCM to Tom for verification). This process usually takes a little time.

Car will need to be closed up for Exterior Judges to check fit before you open hood. Judges will ask you to remove air cleaner/filter, passenger side fuel rail cover, etc. None of this takes very long, so you can wait until they ask you if you want. Dropping spare takes more time and you can do this early.

You already mentioned battery cut-off, but also have a fire extinguisher and NCRS decal to get maximum bonus points.

Not a cleaning contest - 80 out of 4500 points go to cleanliness. Car should look as delivered. Cleaning products that change original finish will cost you points e.g. “Armor All” type products “dressing-up” radiator hoses, interior trim, etc. Be careful of cleaning away original markings, paper tags, etc.

Chris, I'm not an expert, but I have put a 95 through the system up to a Hill Mark of Excellence. Here's some responses for your consideration:

      1. Only the lighter should be in the lighter holder.

      2. Air Filter and filter housing should be out of the car and placed some where out of harms way.

      3. I place my contents in a binder according to how they are listed in the manual. This makes it easy to account for. Of course the owner's manual can just be placed next to the binder.

      4. Two sets of keys and one fob (typically one set of the keys are attached to the fob).

      5. I keep my knockouts inside the little envelop they came in with the tag. This is kept inside the owner's manual.

      6. 1995 do have the felt under the right side of the hood. Leave yours alone.

      7. Minor bumper scratches are minor deductions. Could be one to three points. That all depends on the quantity/severity of the scratches. Those issue are judged on a case by case basis.

      8. As far as the radio unit. I would go with the one that matches your RPO code. The interior judges will check that.

      9. I would not be overly concerned about the wheel weights issue (minor deduction)

      10. Remove your floor mats before judging.

      11. Ensure that your console is empty and clean.

      12. Check under your seats for garbage or excessive dirt.

      13. Remove your right side fuel rail cover.

      14. Remove your jack.

      15. Take pride in presenting your car. Yes, it's not a cleaning contest, but it should be detailed and very clean (that's just my standard).

I'm attaching a few picture how I present my car with items removed. Just place the items far back enough where it does not get in the way of the exterior and chassis judges. In this picture I moved them forward because they were finished with that area and they were in the way where people were walking through, but this should give you a general idea. Welcome to the C4 group! If you need more help, feel free to PM me.

      Hope this helps.

Chris, was that your car at Bloomington last year, if so I judged that car for Gold and Survivor. One beautiful machine. Are you going for PV after flight judging, if so I can help you with knowledge of some the pitfalls regarding that subject. Between my 93 and 90, it required twice on the ZR and 3 time on the 90. The failures, you would not believe. I call them vettesnakes.

Yes, I am going for that after flight. I was/am a BloomingtonGold C4 judge for many yeas, my car wasn't there last year. I haven't taken this one due to the conflict. But I haven't judged in a couple of years. I would like your input on the "vettesnakes" Thanks! Chris
