    57 window crank installation

How do you install the window crank on a '57? We have been trying to just "hit" it on with a dead blow hammer, but it is not going on. We're afraid to hit it too hard and break something.

You should be able to just push it on with your hand. Check the clip and make sure it is seated in the grove. Perhaps put a little lubricant on it so it opens the clip easier. I would not hit it with a hammer.

      Sal I agree with Dan.
There should be no need to use a hammer to install.
Try installing first without the metal clip to be sure the crank handle fits.
Remember to install the white plastic washer between the door panel and the window crank.

Thanks. We are having trouble because of the spring. It's not allowing us to install it easily.

Salvador, agree with Dan & David. Just set the clip so it stays on but not all the way on so as to stop the handle from going on. When placing the handle on push the door panel toward the door compressing the spring then set the clip. As stated do a dry run without the clip. A tool is available to slide the clip on. The tool fits between the inside of the handle and the door panel. Tool is available from many Corvette suppliers for just a few dollars. I have done on my '57 numerous times. You should never need a hammer, just light pressure with your hand. Good Luck! Steve
