    Semi-technical question re 70 LT-1

I can't remember, and none of the photos I have are such that I can tell how it was originally. The hood striping changed at some point in the year, early the stripes were different thickness, later they were the same. Might someone advise approx when that change occurred, please.

    Thank you! Ed

Here is how it reads in the 70-72 Judging Guide.

For nearly all 1970 models the two portions of the stripe were not equal. The outer-stripe was 1/4-
inch widest front centerand gradually tapers to 1/8-inch near the side of the hood. The inner
    stripe was 1/8-inch wide with a 1/8-inch space between. (See Fig. E 2.1and Fig. E 2.3
on the next page) The last of these now known is 1970 s/n 15,889. (July 18 build

There are several pictures in the 1970-72 TIM&JG that might help you, Ed.

Thank you, Sir. With a build date of 30 June, right on the cusp in Horoscopian terms.

Ed - just a bit of trivia in regard to LT-1 Stripes. Ronnie Hunt was the person who applied the majority of all LT-1 stripes for all three year production. They went from a 4 piece stencil to a 3 piece for the second design configuration. A little FYI-the reason for the stripes being misaligned is because that when Ronnie Hunt applied to stripes he aligned the stencils up with a ball point pen and was not really concerned with accuracy, but rather just getting the job done and move on to the next car. I know this because I have had numerous and many hours of conversations with Ronnie many years ago.

And that surely makes sense from what I recall of how they looked. If I had this to do over again you can bet I'd photo document EVERYTHING! Thank you for that tidbit, it's 'stupid' little stuff like that that I really enjoy knowing.

Funny, when I showed photo to my dearest wife, the first thing she said was, "Where are the stripes?" I was stunned that she remembered as it's been 35+ years.

A couple of months ago I looked at this LATE 70 LT1 Roadster... 16,148 Mulsanne over Bright Blue G21 original paint... differing stripe widths.

Attached are some pix of 1970 LT1 Bowtie car #14803 hood stripes, correct or not? These pix were not taken by me, they were taken by a friend of mine restoring a 1970 LT1 #15136, is this valid reference?

My response is regarding the decal not the striping, which I assume you also want to get right. There is a thread posted in April of 2015 70 LT-1 hood decal placement. Good luck. Hugh

Thank you! That's later than mine. Still haven't gotten them painted, nor the valve lash checked, nor the lift, either. To many things on my plate, but thank you all.
