I have a 1966 427. Sometimes when the engine is hot and at starting, the starter will continue to run with the ignition switch turned off. The motor is not running at this time, only turning with the starter. To get it to stop, I turn the battery switch off and once I turn the battery switch back on immediately the starter is not running. It seems to only happen when hot and holding the starter on for an extended time mostly when the carburetor is flooded. I will adjust the floats for the flooding during idle.

Re: Starter Continues to Run
You can buy an inexpensive solenoid rebuild kit at any parts store. Of course, you have to remove the starter, so you may as well rebuild the starter, too. If the bushings are okay and don't need to be replaced, it's easy. The procedure along with all the electrical checks are in your COM. Usually the only required parts are a new Bendix drive, brushes, and shift lever, which are readily available.
Like distributors, GM starters are all very similar (I think most V8s are of the "10MT" family), built from a family of parts and tens of millions were produced over the years, so parts are readily available.

Re: Starter Continues to Run
I suggest cleaning every terminal between the battery and the starter.
This includes the ones on the battery disconnect, at the knife and terminals.
And if you know how do a voltage drop test on the starter cables.
Some weird issues can be cleared up with perfect contacts and no voltage drop.
