Front Coil Spring Questions on my 1965

I will be installing my A-Arms and coil springs this weekend and have a few questions for the TDB:

    1. After derusting and using a wire brush, do you think my springs are acceptable to reuse ? I read on this TDB that if the rust pitting is too deep the springs will be compromised. I had no noticeable sagging or ride issues with these springs in my car. If they aren't acceptable does anyone have a suggestion where to get an acceptable reproduction for the 3851100 spring.

    2. The top and bottom of the springs look the same to me except for the draw mark (i.e. indentation) on the bottom of the right spring in the photo. How do I determine if there is a right side up or do I need to worry about this ?

    3. How should the labels be installed ? Toward the top or the bottom portion of the spring ? Facing any certain direction ? See my photo of my original tag and it was installed on the 4th coil but I can't recall if that was from the bottom or top. Are they installed with about a 1" tab hanging off the spring or wrapped tightly without the tab ?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Mark, if the rust is only minor I would not worry. as the look fine to me. the labels should be placed so the judges can view them.

Mark - if the car sat correctly in regards to ride height before you remove them, then theoretically they should sit the same way when they are reinstalled. As far as the tag on the spring is concerned, they were usually installed 3 - 5 coils from the bottom and they originally fast inward towards the shock absorber. I believe this was done for shipping purposes so that they would not be torn off. - Ron

Ron - thanks for your response. Does the ride height look OK ? Mark

          Mark,

From where I am sitting and viewing it, it looks fine. Great looking car, lots of luck with it.

The rear looks fine but my 65 small block coupe sits a bit higher in the front. Yours sits more like my 65 big block roadster in the front.

This is another photo. I found a ride height list compiled from AIMs and it indicates a SB non AC car should be about 5/8" lower in the nose than in the rear when measured near the wheel wells along the rocker panel assuming a full tank of gas. It also indicated a BB car should be 1/2" lower at the nose. Does anyone know if spring testers would help assess my springs and what the rating is for a standard suspension 3851100 spring should be ?
