    paint

    removing the rear end in my 66 because of a leaking pinon seal. while out, i want to paint the rear end, half shafts, etc. What color black or ??? should be applied?

    It depends what your intentions are. If you're after factory correct finish, be advised that none of the components you mentioned were originally painted. Restoring and maintaining the original natural finishes is difficult.

      Joe is absolutely correct. You can probably get by with a very light coating of satin clear from a rattle can. Should help maintain the original appearance without looking "painted".
