At a swap meet recently, I picked up a pair of lower horizontal shields. (pictured) They are aluminum. Seller indicated that he got them from a GM employee and that they were prototypes punched on the original tooling. They sure look like they were done on the same tooling as the standard chromed steel ones. Any thoughts?

Very common on production tooling to make sample stamping to check fit and issues. Aluminum would be an easy material to work with.
I have a few few things that are prototype stamps and mold shots from the engineering days that were used for that and like mine, sometimes they get stuck away and forgotten about instead of scrapped.
just a thought.- Top
