57-61 lower ignition shielding in aluminum!?!

At a swap meet recently, I picked up a pair of lower horizontal shields. (pictured) They are aluminum. Seller indicated that he got them from a GM employee and that they were prototypes punched on the original tooling. They sure look like they were done on the same tooling as the standard chromed steel ones. Any thoughts?

No thoughts/observations on these? Seller described his friend from whom he got these as "having a long lunch pail".

Did you get these from the Corvette Central guy at the Jefferson Swap Meet this last weekend?

No—did he/they have some like that? Curious
        edit:
Might be the same guy. Did get them at Jefferson on Friday.

Yes, he had a set like that. I picked them up and looked them over. He said that they were aluminum prototypes. They were gone after Friday. This was his last Jefferson swap meet.

Looking those over, it dawns on me they would not be difficult to make. A slip roll machine and a good bead roller would pretty much do the trick. Hmmmmm.......

Very common on production tooling to make sample stamping to check fit and issues. Aluminum would be an easy material to work with.

I have a few few things that are prototype stamps and mold shots from the engineering days that were used for that and like mine, sometimes they get stuck away and forgotten about instead of scrapped.

              just a thought.
