Re: Oil Pool in Top Recess on Intake Manifold
I've also had this problem almost the entire time I have owned my car (22 years) - '67 400HP (3894382 aluminum intake)
I also thought it was carburetor-shaft-related, but after all three were rebuilt, a milder level of pooling/puddling returned even after carefully re-torquing in proper sequence...
I guess now I have two questions:
1. Is there any concern with loosening only one out of the 16 intake bolts (removing it; cleaning etc. as noted above) then re-torquing it back in place - adjacent to others that have been torqued for many years (20 yrs. in my case)? These puppies are notorious for cracked tabs and '67 400 intakes are a one-year-only part.
2. If I re-check torque on the remaining 15 bolts, now that I've been made aware oil may be lubricating them from the underside, should I be concerned that I may over-torque them because some (maybe not all) of the bolts may still be dry; but others may be "lubed" and there's no way to tell which is which?
I have no upcoming plans for re-judging my car and I do drive it (not as much as I'd like to), but I'd rather not have this puddle on my intake. I also don't want to risk cracking a tab for a mildly unsightly condition.
