Help! Need Acrylic Lacquer Paint Formula PPG

Can someone give me the paint formula for Ditzler/PPG-2630, (1974 Corvette Gray 17-917 PPG DDL Duracryl)?

    Thank You, Rich

Did you try contacting any of them? If that doesn't work try www.autocolorlibrary.con

I do have someone local that can supply Acrylic Lacquer but they can't get the (PPG) formula and they claim their computer matching system wouldn't work well for lacquer paints?
Since I'm doing a touch up of a very original car I prefer to use someone local for color adjustment if necessary, I have checked with Hibernia ($1,100 Gal. plus shipping) I don't know if I want to go there.I've heard good things about TCP Global but again they are not local and color adjustment difficult.
        Thank You, Rich

I hope you get what you need. I was in the same position...they mixed me a quart of Elkhart green for my '72 for about $150. All I can say is the match was perfect.

            Hi Dan

            Who mixed your Elkhart Green?

            Thank You, Rich

              Rich,

It came ready to use. All I had to do was thin it out. Like you, my car still has the original paint...all I wanted was a little to touch up. It did have to come ground as air shipping was prohibited. At that time the total cost was $156.79 which included freight.

              Good luck,
              Dan

I was given a book of PPG Lacquer formula's years ago. About 2" thick in a loose leaf binder.

I looked up PPG DDL-2630 and it says "Cannot Be Made In Intermix". There is no formula for it. Some or all the intermixes must be discontinued. My guy who mixed paints for me for the 35-years, has left the store and they hired an old curmudgeon that could care less if he helps anybody. We'll see how long he lasts.

                  Thanks Dan

That's the endorsement I needed, when I called them they seem to be very confident that it would be a perfect match (aging being a factor) but my 1974 has been covered all it's life.

Thank you for your help, TCP Global is confident they have the match, I'll give them a try and post my results.

The old formulas are useless. PPG and others discontinued the mixing colors over 30 years ago. I have had good luck having the original paint scanned and let them mix from the scan. Sometimes you will have to add a drop or two of another color to tint it.

Better hope you have an original to color match to. Color scan should get you in the ball park.....but............ And yes the only way to get an acceptable color match is to do a spray out and comparison to the original sample you want to match. Good luck, as patience and multiple spray outs will endure for acceptable outcome.

I went back to read your newsletter article on replacing the rear two-piece bumper. If your touch-up is limited to bumpers, that shade off may work to your advantage, given we know that the bumpers were painted separately and then installed already painted.

My thought exactly, but I also have to repaint sections of the body that were touched up by the dealer under G.M. warranty.
