Need Recommendation on Towing Service - Fort Worth Texas Area

Folks:

The 5 year restoration of my '72 Corvette has finally come to a close. Now I need a trustworthy service to pick up the car and take it to a shop to get the front and read alignments done.

Can someone recommend a trustworthy towing company or transport service in the Fort Worth area to take my car to the shop?

Unless it's a one-man business, a recommendation isn't of much value. The competence of a towing service is only as good as the driver and equipment they send that day. And you can imagine the turnover of drivers in that business.

I live in Dallas, and needed to tow my 1970 three times in the past seven years. It was never a good experience. The last time, I was stranded in a parking lot about 10 miles from home and called AAA for a tow.

The first driver got lost and never showed or called.

The second driver couldn't figure out how (or didn't want to take the time) to pull the car onto the flatbed without the cable pushing up on the front valance. He actually argued that fiberglass is flexible, and pushing up on it with the cable is done all the time with no problems(!) So I had to fire him.

The third driver showed up with a truck which has an articulating bed that extended flat enough to pull the car without touching the body or bottoming out. This happened about four hours after my original call.

Your challenge is most drivers are not that smart, don't care that much about damage, don't have experience working low clearance cars, and just want to hurry up and finish so they can get the next job.

I suggest eyeballing your alignment in your garage, and nursing the car to the alignment shop.

For the sake of accuracy, Carr's does NOT do alignments...he sublets the work out. I concur with Mark, if your alignment shop is not terribly far from your house, I would just drive over there.

I would recommend getting a computer print out of the finished alignment angles for verification. Most shops have no idea how to do Corvette rear alignment and will just get it kinda in the ballpark and let it go. Without accurate rear alignment your car will never drive correctly.

I was able to find a guy that has transported classic Corvettes for years. He came highly recommended from the shop I'm using for the alignments. He also has transported Corvettes for a well known shop in my area that restores mostly Corvettes. I feel pretty comfortable about it all now. He'll be here around 9 AM to pick it up. The shop I'm using for the alignments does lots of Classic cars and he has done many Corvettes. I feel pretty lucky now. I hope I feel the same when the day is over.

Sorry, I just read this. I and other members have used Carlos at Milner Towing for years. Carlos has roll back moverd for me at least 6 times, 3 Corvette's and a Spit, the past 5 years. He is very careful and prompt. Steve
