The original FI air cleaner was long gone (along with the FI unit) from my '62 when I bought it 40+ years ago. Finally putting all back now.
The AIM appears to show the mounting plate for the air cleaner is attached to the inner fender with rivets through the fiberglass from the engine side, attaching to the metal nut plate mounted on the wheel well side. The rivets appear to be installed outboard of the through holes for the air cleaner mounting bolts.
I cannot see any evidence of rivets ever present in the fiberglass on the engine side of the inner fender (photo attached). On the wheel well side, you can see where the mounting plate was mounted and see the remnants of something (a rivet ?) towards the front of the car (see photo). The latest 61/62 TIMJG shows a photo M-5-11 (on page 133) of the mounting plate on the wheel well side but the visible outboard hole appears to be empty.
Were these mounting plates typically riveted in the outboard areas through the fiberglass or maybe sometimes held in place with some bonding adhesive on the wheel well side that could protrude through a larger hole in the center of the plate?
