C2 gas tank sending unit Can it be adjusted?

I replaced my c2 gas tank sending unit with a replacement from one of the major parts suppliers.

The unit seems to function fine-except one issue.
That being, the fuel level reads consistently 1/8 to 1/4 lower than the actual level in the tank which of course I can visualize (how convenient)

When I installed the unit it did seem that the shaft with float attached could be bent somewhat for a crude adjustment. But obviously two hands cannot get inside the tank.

Question-any way to practically bend the shaft, and does it make sense that lowering the float in this way would yield a more accurate reading, as my reasoning suggests?

    input appreciated. Thanks

Remove the sending unit and bend the arm down.

John, I would let the tank empty and then pump in a 1/4 tank then a 1/2 ( 4 gall.@ a time) and see how it registers that way first, any adjustment of the arm will be guess work. I really think that the fuel tank units are off just a bit no matter how you dice it. the reason I say this when the tank reads empty there always seems to be a gallon or so left in the tank.

Just went through all this on my 63 and yes....there is nearly always some "Kentucky windage" involved in the reading. Midyear Corvettes are unique in that the fuel gauge is a voltage divider (unlike C1 and C3 cars) and the sending unit has power to it.

So disconnect the battery if you're messing with it - the sending units are 90 ohms (most are marked accordingly)... I think if its off a small bit I'd live with it...otherwise you have a lot of trail and error ahead of you...
