Question on B/B Pass.Side-Valve Cover S/P Wire Bracket

I see on some pictures there is a S/P Wire Bracket that is attached to V/C by the V/C bolt to the head(Front Side of Cover). It looks like
a two wire holder. Engine is a non-radio 1968 L-36. The new 5th ed. J/M for the 68/69 Corvettes is unclear on this bracket. Basic
question-Is this bracket correct? Would it be used on Radio and Non-Radio Engines? Is it used just on the P/S or is it also seen
on the D/S. Thanks in advanced. Picture of this bracket is shown in the Paragon Cat. on page 89 I believe. Thanks in Advance

I saw your post while Gary & I (and some other people) were traveling home from Greenville, SC. I have to tell you I need to get my much younger daughter to decipher your post. I am not up on the latest abbreviations. I guess I am getting too old for this computer stuff.

If you are referring to the bracket I think you are, I see it on 1970 fat motors. I would consider the possibility of a late 1969 having it, but that is the limit. It is handy, but I expect some bean counter trashed it.

Re: Question on B/B Pass.Side-Valve Cover S/P Wire Bracket

        Larry,
Home from Greenville. Nice meet. came home to snow on the ground.

What is a S/P wire bracket? Spark Plug? I too must be too old to know all the current abbreviations. V/C is valve cover?

We, as a whole group ought to vow to quit typing such cryptic messages. Usually I don't answer, but 68 L-36 caught my eye and I have one sitting in the trailer from Greenville.

        Sorry...

Terry M. and Gary B.:Sorry for the confusion. Yes S/P = Spark Plug and V/C = Valve Cover.(I should have
spelled things out). Picture in question is below.68-AIM shows it as "existing support" on page 344. Nothing else
is said about it. Could not find anything in the new J/M also.(5th Edition). Thanks again. Larry P.S. D/S=Drivers

Let me look in the morning please. Snowing now here. Car is in the trailer, I'll try and get a picture.

Another thing to add to the manual.

Yes Larry, that is the bracket I was thinking about. I will defer to Gary's examination of the 1968 Big Block he has access to at the moment, and there are some other very original 1968 Big Blocks available to him over the next week, but in the mean time I will stick with my earlier "off the top of my head" statement.

Re: Question on B/B Pass.Side-Valve Cover S/P Wire Bracket

I think this bracket was used on the right hand side, second, from the front, valve cover bolt. It held the number 2 and 4 spark plug wire. A picture of a 69 427-390hp is here. I cannot find a picture of the left side, but I think the same clip was used on the third from the front, to hold the 5 and 7 spark plug wire.

The 68, 427-435hp I have here in the trailer does not have the clips. This car was in Greenville, SC this past weekend. When I take it back to Jims this week, he has a 68-435 coupe and a 400-hp convert I'll look at. He does not have a 68 427-390hp car though (yet). Maybe others will chime in that do own these cars.

I'll look at the 69 when I am there and make sure the left side has the clip.

I also think, 70-72 454's use those clips. Another thing to check on and add to both manuals.

The more we know, the more we don't know.

Re: Question on B/B Pass.Side-Valve Cover S/P Wire Bracket

I talked with Jim today. He looked at the two 68's (400-hp and 435-hp) and they DO NOT have the clips. Like the 68 435-hp I have here.
The 1969 is a October 69 build car, picture I posted earlier, DOES NOT have another clip on the left side.
He has 8700 serial number 1970, 454-390hp. It has the same clip on the right side cover, but not on the left, like the 69.
The two 72's 454's he has have the clips part of the valve covers, spot welded on.
                  Hope this helps.

Gary: Thanks very much for taking the time/effort to research this. Any thoughts on the notation in the 68 AIM.?>>

I think that is the clip in previous picture, the clip you are referencing. As this clip was assembled on the engine in Tonowanda, it will not show a part number in AIM. Only "stuff" added to the engine in St. Louis shows in the AIM.

Gary: Thanks Much. I suspect that since your picture of the 69 L36 which has an early build date; it is very possible that
late 68 L36's also had it.(At least on the right side)--Larry P.S. Will see if anybody else can verify

Just a quick followup. I misread Gary's build date on the 69 L36. It has a late build date not early so the
68 L36's may not have this bracket. Maybe more input will come about. Again>Thanks to all.-Larry
