    1969 Lacquer Paint

Restoring a 1969 convertible in Riverside Gold. Working with John Ballard to get the color correct with PPG DDL Duracryl. In making paint cards for John, all test are cards are 'glossy'. I even tried a piece of fender that was prepared with DP40 and K36. These test were also 'glossy'. I understand that the door jambs, hood gutters and recess for the top cover will need to be 'less glossy' for judging. I am trying to get some idea of what level of gloss or lack there of I need to use. Is a 'base coat' level of gloss what I need to have ?
    Thanks for Suggestions,
    Steve

    Steve,
If you want to duplicate the gold try 25 cans of rattle can! Just joking!

      Steve,

What is status of your personal paint inventory? Given April 5, 2018 PPG “Obsolescence Notice” for Duracryl, may be problematic material choice. Link below.

Also consider directing questions towards NCRS’ Body & Paint resource - Tom Ames. In past Paint classes, Tom has discussed various methods for achieving desired surface appearance.

Thanks for the Joke. Considered the rattle cans after 6 trips to PPG store to get to close match. Hope this is close enough. I have 2 gallons of paint so hopefully they have enough tints to finish up. I will drop Tom Ames a note on Door Jamb finish. John Ballard has been a great help on the paint tint. Appreciate the heads up about paint being discontinues.

If too glossy, you can use a faster drying thinner. It has been so long that I am not sure of the numbers anymore. They used to be DTL 16, DTL 876, and DTL 105. I am not sure that the numbers are any good anymore. The lowest number, DTL 16 was used when the ambient temps were cool and the DTL 105 for high temps. I have sprayed jambs using 105 and ended up with about the right gloss for judging
