1970 Gas Door Cross Flag / Studs

In 1970 did the gas door cross flags have smooth studs for self threading acorn nuts or were they threaded as reissues?

    Thank You Rich

The studs on the rear door emblem were always threaded. The acorn nuts used were not self-threading.

On the nose emblem the studs were not threaded.

      Joe

So were the gas door acorn nuts casted chrome or sheet metal chrome as the AIM illustration suggest.

      Thanks again for your help

They are stamped steel type nuts, not cast. I believe they were chrome finished but they might have been zinc plated. The acorn nuts supplied with SERVICE emblems are usually phosphate-finished.

          Joe,
I have an NOS service replacement in the box and it has phosphate acorn nuts as you indicated.

Rich, My 72 has the chrome acorn style nuts that hold my emblem to the gas door, cannot say for sure if 70 is the same. maybe the JM will say, I only have the last edition, which is now out dated.

This is off a 70--same through 72. Chrome with the PAL identification. Every original 70-72 I have looked at closely is identical to this, including the PAL logo.

                Thanks Guys

Great shots Mike, I have those but for some reason they are not snugging up, I'll have to revisit this, maybe the nuts are worn?

                  Rich,
My 1970 (January 29 build) has those, although I haven't taken them off to see the PAL logo.

Your issue could be the nut is worn or the threaded stud on the logo could have stripped threads. You will have to examine them to see which is the problem.

Terry, this is just an FYI-you have an extremely early build 1970 LT-1 Where as Rich has a very very late 1970 LT-1 That possesses some early 1971 production components. Just thought I would mention that to see if that had anything to do with the finish and configuration of the gas door acorn nuts. Just something to think about.

If you would be so kind as to come and remove the paint, I will buy you lunch. Only 90 miles as the crow flies.

Be careful what you wish for.

Bring them to Greenville this weekend and Terry would let us do it as a Demonstration Speech for the Advanced Judging School.

That is a strong possibility, if you both wish to do that.

Be careful about that "crow flies" stuff. :-)

Can the crow fly all the way across that big lake? Patrick, you always have an open invitation! (To come visit, not fly across the lake)
