    C2 Power Steering Conversation

I am contemplating adding original power steering to my 64. I would appreciate feed back from members that have power steering for pros and cons. I have heard that C2's don't handle as well at higher speeds. I drive my cars, any info appreciated.

Have it in both my 63's, love it. No problem at 85 but I usually stay around 70 on the interstate.

Thank you I have heard it becomes extremely sensitive since it is as responsive at all speeds.

        Robert,
My 67 has power steering and it is a pleasure to drive. I don't find it overly sensitive. Tires, alignment and the condition of the suspension all play a big role. My car has Diamond back Michelin tires.
        Kind regards

          Robert------

I ordered my 1969 without power steering. In 1986 I added original-type power steering. It is the best thing I ever did for the car. Period.

I also installed power steering on my 63 and 67 cars and I love it. Use a stock system and IMO you will be very happy.

It's not the power steering that causes that problem. If you convert over, be sure to have the front suspension aligned to P/S specs

And, I might add, to radial tires specs...if so equipped.

Should most alignment people know what that is?

                      Courtesy of Duke Williams:

                      TOURING SETTINGS WITH RADIAL TIRES

                      Front camber: Zero deg.

                      Front Caster: Positive 1.5-2.5 degrees

(Power steering cars should go for the high end of the setting if possible. Some cars may be difficult to achieve 2 or more degrees.)

Toe-in: 1/32" per side (Note: if toe between front wheels is different, it will automatically equalize when driving, but this will cause the steering wheel to be cocked at an angle.

                      Rear Camber: negative 0.5 degrees

                      Rear Toe-in: 1/32" per side.

                      SPORT SETTINGS WITH RADIAL TIRES

As above with up to negative 1.0 deg camber at all four corners... also recommend urethane front anti-roll bar link bushings with these settings.

ALL CROSS READINGS SHOULD BE AS CLOSE TO ZERO AS POSSIBLE AND THE FINAL REAR THRUST ANGLE SHOULD BE AS CLOSE TO ZERO AS POSSIBLE.

If bias ply tires are installed use service manual toe settings for models originally equipped with bias ply tires.

I have power steering in my 67 and manual steering in my 65. to tell you the truth I really cant tell the difference in either car. PS has radials and the 65 has reproduction bias ply tires. rarely do I go above 75MPH.

I love power steering on my 65. Be sure to attach it to the correct holes in your steering arms.
